About Mooncup: Better period
Editor’s Note
We strive to provide as many details as possible to make your experience at Mooncup more enjoyable. Yet, we are not from Mooncup. It might be impossible for us to cover each of your questions.
Mooncup was born as a measure to fight the ever-increasing waste produced by disposable sanitary products. In 2002 the invention called Mooncup was introduced and it was the first time the world witnessed a medical-grade menstrual cup. Its mission was to put an end to waste, expense, and discomfort of tampons and pads and pave the way for more sustainable and comfortable period care.

Regular period product waste
Plastic waste appears in almost all aspects of our lives. Plastic bags from our everyday grocery trip, the one-time-use medical mask, and of course menstruation product is no exception. Since the middle of the 20th century, many tampons and menstrual pads have contained somewhere between a little or a lot of plastic in their design.
It’s hard to get a glimpse of how much plastic waste throw-away sanitary products produce since they are labeled medical waste and do not need to be tracked. But rough estimates give us staggering results: In 2018 alone, people in the US bought 5.8 billion tampons, the vast majority of which would most likely end up in landfills as plastic waste.
The journey of Mooncup
With the view to stop our environment from the devastating damage from plastic waste, Su Hardy has decided to create the world’s first-ever medical-grade silicone menstrual cup.
Starting out with a rather non-conventional idea of establishing a company on a sole,- time-purchase product without any market was rough for Su and her team. At that time, reusable period products were pretty niche, as there was no category for this kind of product on any supermarket aisle. So, to bring reusable period products out to the light, the team had to be creative. Eventually, they came up with ground-breaking advertising campaigns on the London Underground, guerrilla stickering of toilets around the country, and powerful word-of-mouth campaigns making the word “Moon cup” spread like wildfire.
Thanks to the collective effort of the team and strong support from their loyal customers, together they have successfully pulled off unorthodox advertising campaigns which made a previously unknown product become a household name.
Great things started out small!
What once used to be a small company in a spare room, Mooncup Ltd. has now become a multi-award-winning and ethical international business.
For the past few decades, with their increasingly popular product, Mooncup has decided that they should use the power of their brand and business for good. While one simple product can’t really change the world, they hope and believe that by helping people around them see their choices differently, and show how a simple change in their everyday habits can greatly impact the environment, they can create great changes toward better health, period care as well as the environment as a whole.

Frequently asked questions about Mooncup
Is the Mooncup messy?
It might take you a few times to get used to the product at first, but when you get accustomed to it, you won’t even remember that you are on period. The product is so comfortable that it doesn’t even feel like it's there at all. And about leakage, you shouldn’t be worried either, there’s no leak, no mess, just at most comfortable for you.
Is the Mooncup comfortable?
As stated earlier, the product is so comfortable and easy to use once you get used to it (normally it would be a few days). Then, whenever you are on your period, you really should remind yourself that you are on your period to avoid forgetting to take out the cup. It’s such a hassle-free experience! And knowing that you are no longer contributing to the detrimental amount of plastic waste. Life could not be any more comfortable!
Is the Mooncup too big?
Some people are afraid that the cup is just too big for them and in order to smoothly use the product, they should try tampons first. But that’s not true. The Mooncup is actually not that big. Even a virgin who has never used a tampon before will have no trouble fitting the cup in. Just fold it down and slide in, it’s that simple.
Is the Mooncup a bit overpriced?
We know that at first glance Mooncup seems extremely overpriced, but trust us the truth says otherwise. When you spend about 4 dollars each time on a box of tampons or pads, Mooncup costs next to nothing really. Because while tampons or pads have to be disposed of after one use, Mooncup can be reused over and over again. And with Mooncup discount codes, you will see that this is a worthy investment.
